About Me

My photo
Karen Smith Hupp
Printer’s ink entered my veins as a jr. high cub reporter and has continued to pulse through interviews from the well-knowns to the glad-to-have-knowns. I have reported the gamut of community news, and I have shot my share of grizzly crash scenes, freighters blown ashore in blinding Nor'easters, and players sensing victory in their inaugural lacrosse season. Within PR, I was set on fire by the best professor and mentor, OSU's late Walt “Wonderful” Seifert. Likewise I am anxious to ignite the next generation of PR professionals. In that vein, I author blogs, provide workshop presentations, and mentor students and young professionals. I am a believer of lifelong learning and each year brings new adventures ~ I’m working on my Aladdin list of enjoying the top coasters with my sons, the most decadent of desserts with my daughters and the journey of a lifetime with my husband.

A stroll through a cemetery offers unexpected encounters, such as this quote to consider how to approach life: "All we have is what we gave away. What we kept is lost."

The moments of happiness we enjoy take us by surprise. It's not that we seize them, but that they seize us ~ Ashley Montagu

Katie is with us always

Katie is with us always
As a purple dusk settled over La Plata High School's homecoming evening and we left the throng of photos and dinner for the seniors, we caught the evening sky. Purple, in honor of Katie, her favorite color. She is loved, and missed.

Bubbles: not just child's play!
They reflect the colors of the rainbow. They intrigue the fussiest of children. They inspire joy, and offer us optimism. Click the photo for some ideas to bring the kid out in you.

The legacy of our Mothers

The legacy of our Mothers
Imagining conversations and feasts of Sundays spent with Great-Grandmothers, Great-Aunts, Grandma and Mother. The legacy of welcoming all who enter our homes lives on through us.

Carol's Garden

Carol's Garden
My favorite photo and a blue-ribbon winner, "Carol's Garden" was among the auction items at Peace Lutheran Youth's annual talent show/auction March 12. In all, the auction raised more than $6,000 for the church's capital appeal. 07/08/09
